Article: Cat lover switches over to Shih Tzu

Q. I have a 3-year old Shih Tzu, Chi-Chi. After a lifetime of cats for pets, she is the first dog I've ever owned, so I'm a little new to dog behavior and manners. My question concerns a recent visit from my daughter who brought her new 2-year-old dog, a shepherd/husky mix. She is a sweetheart dog but she started to block the food bowl and drape her paws around the toys whenever my dog approached.

How much should I deal with this? Since this is my house, should I step in as the leader over both dogs? Ask my daughter to do it? Or allow the dogs to work things out for themselves?
