A Northwest Side church wants to build a new home for itself in Austin and make it a center for education and community services.

Grace and Peace Community, a Christian church, has proposed a $10 million project for 1864 N. Leclaire. It plans to renovate an 80,000-square-foot building, an old Glidden paint factory, and turn part of it into a charter school.

Next to it on the three-acre site, the church plans to build a worship center that could hold about 850 people. It has asked the city for a zoning change so it can proceed.
