Article: Manning back at free safety

In their first practice Friday, the Bears will line up at safety just how they left off at the end of last season.

That right there will be a change in itself. The club announced on its Web site Wednesday that Danieal Manning will be moved to free safety for the opening of training camp and that Kevin Payne will be the strong safety.

Maybe changing starting free safeties 16 times and starting strong safeties 14 times since coach Lovie Smith began in 2004 is behind the decision to go with the status quo.
