The bright sun lit up the Des Plaines River Trail near Gowe Memorial Park in Gurnee Monday while youths from the across the county picked up litter.
Actually, Youth Conservation Corps and the Lake County Conservation Corps teamed up to clean up in the areas along the river at Van Patten Woods in Wadsworth, Gowe Park in Gurnee and Wright Woods near Libertyville.
"We have about 100 kids today," said Barbara Poole, a coordinator with the Youth Conservation Corps. "We do this every year and this event is voluntary," she said.
"I heard last year that someone found an old tractor in the river," she said.
There were no tractors this year, but the three crews picked up 25 to 30 bags of trash. ...
