Rita Usher was terrified after learning that the man who police believed shot and killed her son last year is walking the streets.

Paul Alston, 21, who was accused of murdering 38-year-old Bernard Phillips on Aug. 25, was found not guilty Monday by a Lake County jury.

"How are we supposed to live around here knowing this man is out on the streets?" Usher asked. "I am terrified right now. I don't know what will happen next."

According to police, four masked men, including Alston, broke into a Manchester Knolls townhome at 2411 Arrington Way in North Chicago that Phillips shared with his girlfriend, Shirl Palmer, 35, and her two children.
