saturated adiabatic lapse rate
(SLR)
The
lapse rate
that prevails when a parcel of air reaches
saturation
. Also known as
saturation adiabatic lapse rate
or
moist adiabatic lapse rate
. For a rising air parcel, because of the
latent heat
released by
condensation
, this lapse rate is less than the
dry adiabatic lapse rate
(
c.

) and is normally between 4 and 7°C km
−1
