Henry V, Lancastrians and Yorkists, king of England and lord of Ireland, b. 16 Sept. 1387, s. of Henry, earl of Hereford (later Henry IV), and Mary; acc. 20 Mar. 1413; m. Catherine, da. of Charles VI of France, 2 June 1420; issue: Henry; d. 31 Aug. 1422; bur. Westminster abbey. Henry was twenty-five years of age when he succeeded his father. He had acquired considerable military experience campaigning against Glyn Dwr and, at the age of sixteen, had been wounded at the battle of Shrewsbury. His relations with his father were not always easy, and the ailing king strenuously resisted the suggestion that he should abdicate.
