Patti, Adelina ( b Madrid, 19 Feb. 1843; d Craig-y-Nos Castle, 27 Sept. 1919). Italian soprano, daughter of the tenor Salvatore Patti (1800–69), a Donizetti singer, later opera manager in New York, and the soprano Caterina Chiesa Barilli-Patti ( d 1870), who reputedly sang Norma the night before Adelina was born. Studied New York with E. Valentini, and Ettore Barilli (her half-brother). Singing début aged 7; stage début New York, AM, 1859 (Lucia). New Orleans, French OH, 1860–1.
