Wine
There are differing attitudes in the classical sources of Judaism towards the drinking of wine. The Psalmist declares that wine gladdens the heart of man (Psalms 104: 15) and the Rabbis introduced a special
benediction
over wine as well as ruling that other important benedictions such as the
Kiddush
and
Havdalah
have to be recited over a cup of wine. At the
marriage
ceremony the benedictions are recited over a cup of wine from which bride and bridegroom drink. Libations of wine were offered on the altar as an accompaniment to the
