For Immediate Release October 5, 2004 Senate Passes Levin-Coleman Amendment
on Terrorist Financing WASHINGTON - By unanimous consent the Senate late
last night passed an amendment authored by Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and
Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., to strengthen U.S. anti-terrorist financing
efforts. The bipartisan Levin-Coleman amendment to the National Intelligence
Reform Act of 2004 would augment efforts to fight terrorist financing in
two ways. First, the amendment would require the Treasury Department to
evaluate the current state of U.S. efforts to combat terrorist financing
and issue a report in six months with recommendations for reforms. Secondly,
