Fed: Fraser hopes Senate won't be just a rubber stamp

SYDNEY, Oct 19 AAP - Former prime minister Malcolm Fraser said today he hoped the Senate
would not become just a rubber stamp under the Howard government.

Mr Fraser - the last prime minister to enjoy a Senate majority - described the win
for the coalition as a huge and historic.

Asked on Sydney radio 2UE if the Senate could now become a rubber stamp for the government,
Mr Fraser said if it gained a total majority for the government this could happen.

Mr Fraser said he thought Mr Howard would control the Senate "thoughtfully".
