Judge waives Ohio voter challenge

CINCINNATI, Oct 28, 2004 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Attempts by the Republican party to challenge the eligibility of 35,000 Ohio voters has been all but swept away by a Cincinnati judge.

U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott issued an order Wednesday preventing local election boards from notifying challenged voters and holding hearings until she hears legal arguments Friday. But because her ruling means those election board hearings cannot take place within the time frame state law requires before Tuesday's election, her ruling killed the Republican effort.
