President George W. Bush and Sen. John Kerry are virtually tied in the Electoral College count, fighting over eight to 10 states so close and unpredictable that anything is possible Tuesday night.
Each state has a different number of votes in the Electoral College that are related to population; a candidate needs 270 of the 538 electoral votes to win the presidency.
