Hundreds of protesters -- most of them employees of Judith Leiber Handbags
-- this week downed their tools in strike demanding higher wages and better
conditions of work.
Parading in front of the the factory located at 20 West 33rd St. in the
heart of Manhattan, the workers, most of whom carried playcards which read:
"Don't Buy Judith Leiber Handbags," and "No Money, No Work," the workers
said they have been without contracts for a long time.
One protester who said she has worked for the company for more than 20
years, said: "We are striking for more money and a better health plan. This
company makes handbags for thousands and thousands of dollars ...
