Every summer, the William H. G. Fitzgerald Tennis Center (Cater Barron)
affords tennis buffs in the Washington, D.C. area the opportunity to see
some nationally ranked tennis players in action.

Retuning as a favorite to local fans is former champion James Blake (2002).
Blake has proven to be a Washington crowd favorite since capturing his
first tour title at the 2002 Legg Mason Tennis Classic, becoming the forth
African-American to win an ATP title. He followed it up by reaching the
third round of the US Open before falling to top-ranked Hewitt, but he
finished the year in the top 40 for the first time ever- a feat he repeated
in 2003.
