Richard Leschynski of Garfield remembers the exact moment he jumped into Nazi-occupied Normandy, France, with the 82nd Airborne Division on June 6, 1944.

"At 2:26 in the morning, the red light turned to green and we jumped," he said of the alert lights in a C-47 Dakota transport plane.

In the fog of war, it was one of those crystal clear moments, one that the 80-year-old pensioner will never forget.
