"Vera Drake," the latest film by writer/director Mike Leigh, is about a middle-aged woman who goes to prison in the 1950s for performing abortions. Like all Leigh's films, it's distilled from months of improvisation in which Leigh and his cast create characters and eventually a story. It's also about re-creating a moment in British history. David D'Arcy reports.
