KUALA LUMPUR, Wed. - Cultivation of the popular "Eksotika" variety of papaya, known for its sweetness, will be put on hold until a hardier species is cloned to withstand the onslaught of the die-back disease.
The bacterial die-back disease has affected papaya trees in Kampung Baru Tanah Mas, Bidor, Perak and several places in Johor recently, producing fruit with brownish or green spots and an inferior bland-tasting flesh.
Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin advised farmers against planting the Eksotika, Solo and Hong Kong ...
