Dec 14:The water level of the river Padma has gone down to a record low
well before the start of the dry season and the river bed from Lalgola
point in West Bengal to Bagha in Rajshahi is full of sand and silts.
It is reliably learnt that, no water was released from the Farakka
barrage in India in river Padma this year even during the monsoon because
the water was diverted to other rivers in India by breaching the 30 year-
long water sharing contract. As a result Bangladesh, the lower riparian
part of Ganges basin, remained without water even at the full monsoon season.

...Rajshahi, Nov 19 (UNB) - A class-X student of Rajshahi Collegiate School drowned in the Padma while a group of schoolboys playfully swimming in a channel of the mighty river beside the city Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sohel, 15, son of Hannan Sonal of Dargapara area under Boalia thana.
