Tuesday, December 28, 2004 -- Bank of Israel Governor David Klein lowered the central bank's key lending rate for January by 0.2 percentage point on Tuesday. It is now 3.7 percent, the lowest in the country's history.

The reduction was in line with analysts' expectations. They said Klein may decide to reduce rates by another 0.2 percent next month.
