Article: French news agency defends actions in Venezuela labor dispute

The French news agency Agence France-Presse defended its decision to close its office in Venezuela amid a prolonged labor dispute, saying it had acted fully within the law.

AFP's regional management in Latin America said in a statement carried late Friday by the Venezuelan state news agency Venpres that "AFP has acted at all times abiding by the law."

The statement came a day after the Venezuelan Labor Ministry said it would impose fines on the Paris-based news agency if it doesn't comply with a government position that it should continue labor negotiations with workers in its Caracas office.
