Don't ask Edwinna Gonzalez about the state of this state unless you are ready for an onslaught of Spanish language expletives and more than a few tears.

The best job the 32-year-old Paterson woman ever had in New Jersey was a $5.90-an-hour position mopping floors. In December she cleared $1,050 by working three part-time jobs.

After paying her rent and bills and buying food she was left with $35 for Christmas presents.
