The United Nations banned its foreign staff from traveling between Banda Aceh and Medan because of reported fighting between the Indonesian military and separatist rebels in the tsunami-battered area, a U.N. spokesman said Monday.
The 24-hour travel restriction, effective since Monday morning, came hours before the United Nations announced a state of "heightened awareness" for U.N. relief workers in Indonesia _ which bore the brunt of the Dec. 26 earthquake-tsunami disaster.
