Fed: Minchin pours cold water on slashing income tax

CANBERRA, Jan 22 AAP - The federal government today poured cold water on calls to slash
income tax rates to 30 per cent when it takes control of the Senate in July.
A group of about 20 coalition MPs plan to present Treasurer Peter Costello with a blueprint
advocating cutting income tax rates to 30 per cent when the government gains a majority
in the Senate on July 1.
But Finance Minister Nick Minchin today questioned how the government could continue
to deliver its commitments if billions of dollars were lost in tax revenue.
