Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos threatened Tuesday to fight in the European Court any decision by the European Commission to directly trade with the Turkish part of the island.

Papadopoulos said after meeting Greek Premier Costas Caramanlis that his government would go to the court if its EU partners went ahead with a July proposal by the commission to offer trade privileges to the breakaway state in the Turkish-occupied north.
