Rik Kirkland, managing editor of the U.S. financial magazine Fortune, has said he will step down on April 1, but the magazine's owner said no changes were planned in its direction or content. The owner, Time Inc., is likely to name a successor this week. Among the candidates is Eric Pooley, managing editor for Time in Europe. ''There's no discontent with Fortune,'' Norman Pearlstine, editor in chief of Time Inc., said. He said he is seeking a successor ''who has the ability to maintain everything you like but who brings fresh eyes to it.''
