Former Salt Lake County mayor Nancy Workman was acquitted Thursday of misusing public funds, a charge that prompted her to abandon her re-election bid last fall.

Workman had faced possible prison time for arranging for the county to hire an accountant for a Boys and Girls Club where Workman's daughter was a top officer.

The jury got the case Wednesday afternoon, and deliberated for about eight hours, stopping after midnight. The jurors took just 30 minutes more to reach a decision after they returned to the courthouse Thursday morning.
