Prime Minister John Howard said Friday he could not prevent a former Guantanamo Bay detainee from selling his story to an Australian television network, but the government refused to rule out bringing legal action to seize the profits.
Mamdouh Habib, an Egyptian-born former cleaner and coffee shop owner, was returned to his hometown of Sydney last month after being held for more than three years without charges on suspicion of terrorism.
Habib has reportedly agreed to tell his story exclusively to Nine Network television's public affairs program "60 Minutes" for as much as 200,000 Australian dollars ...
