It's way past midnight as I sit here writing this, listening to Nat King
Cole croon about yuletide carols and chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
For the past several weeks, I've been staying up into the wee hours
meticulously decorating gingerbread men with currants and sugar sprinkles,
frosting holiday cupcakes, and mixing up batches of oatmeal cookies.
It's cold, but the heat of the kitchen oven is warming up my fingers,
crusted with flour and sugar. Speaking of sugar, I almost ran into a
disaster tonight when an army of winter ants invaded my last box of brown
sugar.
Trying to avoid pouring sugar-coated ants into my oatmeal raisin cookie
batter, I looked around my house ...
