Fed: Scientists working on house dust mite vaccine

BRISBANE, March 6 AAP - Australian scientists are working on developing a vaccine to
desensitise people against house dust mites, a major culprit in aggravating asthma.

Geneticist Paul Watt, of the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in Western
Australia, said a vaccine made from peptides found in ancient bacterial proteins was showing
promise in mice although the experiments were ongoing.

He said the potential vaccine was based on naturally-occurring peptides - dubbed phylomers
by the scientists - which were similar in shape to the dust ...
