Through more than 20 years of recordings, the Pat Metheny Group has become an established brand name of jazz. It's an ensemble with an identifiable sound and a fanatical following. The group's latest work, "The Way Up," rejects compact song forms that defined previous albums in favor of more ambitious, extended compositions. Tom Moon has our review.
