The leaders of the largest Greek and Turkish Cypriot parties held talks Tuesday in the first meeting between heavyweight politicians on either side of the island since the failure of last year's referendums.
The head of the Cyprus Communist Party, Dimitris Christofias, crossed into Turkish Nicosia and met the leader of the Republican Turkish Party, Mehmet Ali Talat, at his party headquarters.
Talat, who is also prime minister of the breakaway Turkish Cypriot state, announced the formation of a new coalition government Tuesday after the Feb. 20 legislative elections.
