Defense Minister Juraj Liska and other top military officials unveiled a memorial Thursday to Slovak soldiers who have died while serving on international missions.
The gray marble memorial, which bears the names of 10 Slovak soldiers who have died on such assignments was unveiled at a training center for peacekeepers in the western Slovak city of Nitra, some 90 kilometers (56 miles) northeast of Bratislava.
"They were heroes who cared about the destiny of others," Maj. Gen. Lubomir Bulik, the Slovak army chief of staff, said at the unveiling ceremony.
