A U.N. war crimes indictment charged Kosovo's former prime minister with 37 counts of war crimes, accusing him of responsibility for the rape, murder and torture of Serb and Roma civilians by Albanian separatists during the province's 1998-1999 war.

In one of the most high-profile cases since the trial of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, Ramush Haradinaj, one of the ethnic Albanian commanders of the Western-backed Kosovo Liberation Army during its fight against Milosevic's Serb troops, was accused of 37 counts of war crimes on Thursday.
