Ten: Davenport calls on WTA Tour to allow appearance money

INDIAN WELLS, California, March 17 Reuters - World number one Lindsay Davenport is
calling for the WTA Tour to allow appearance money and end the covert way in which top
players are rewarded for entering a tournament.
In the men's ATP tour, tournament officials can openly entice players to compete at
their events by paying them a guaranteed fee on top of any prize money.
Although the governing body of women's tennis, the WTA, has banned the practice, top
attractions such as Maria Sharapova and the Williams sisters still receive payments from
tournament organisers ...
