NSW: RSPCA calls for government support for private zoos

SYDNEY, March 23 AAP - The RSPCA today called on the NSW government to help fund private
zoos, after the former owner of wildlife sanctuary was fined for animal cruelty.

Naish Hogan, 52, yesterday pleaded guilty in the Downing Centre Local Court to 30 counts
of failing to provide proper and sufficient food to native animals in his care.

Agriculture Department officers, assisted by RSPCA handlers, raided Waratah Park in
Sydney's north in February 2003.

Hogan was found to be operating the park - where the TV series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo
was filmed - without a licence and 145 animals in ...
