Sagar Viplov Mehta has been concerned that nearly four million patients in
the United States suffer from chronic ulcers, costing the healthcare
industry billions of dollars each year. So, to help in some way, Sagar, now
a senior at the Wheatley School in Old Westbury, New York, conducted a
study to optimize the properties of certain gels for wound healing and
tissue engineering applications.
He entered his research project in the prestigious Intel Science Talent
Search pre-college competition for high school seniors and was selected as
a finalist along with four other Indian Americans who have conducted
college-grade research.
