Striker Washington scored a pair of goals Thursday as Portuguesa stunned Sao Paulo 2-1 to keep the three-time national champion from winning the Sao Paulo state championship in advance.

Sao Paulo could've secured the title _ its 21st _ if it had beaten Portuguesa at Pacaembu stadium. With three rounds to go, Sao Paulo has 41 points, nine more than second-place Corinthians, which beat Guarani 2-0 in Campinas.

Sao Paulo, which plays rival Santos on Sunday, needs one win in its last three matches to capture the prestigious state title. It can also lift the trophy if Corinthians fails to win one of its ...
