Whatever happened to pickled eggs? Does anyone make them anymore?

Purple pickled eggs were picnic and potluck favorites when I lived within the Pennsylvania Dutch sphere of influence, but I can't remember the last time I tasted or even saw one. Happily, I found a recipe in "Quick Pickles, Easy Recipes with Big Flavor" (Chronicle, $18.95) by Chris Schlesinger, John Willoughby and Dan George.
