Fed: Major decline in health of Murray River forests: report

SYDNEY, April 14 AAP - Forests along the Murray River are in significantly poorer shape
today than two years ago, with more than 75 per cent of the trees showing health problems,
a study has found.

The survey of the health of river red gums and black box trees at 155 sites along the
Murray River floodplain found the amount of trees showing signs of stress was up from
51 per cent in 2002.

The study by government departments in NSW, Victoria and South Australia, and the Murray-Darling
Basin Commission, did not investigate the causes of changes in trees' health, but warned
