When the tsunami hit South Asia, Jasvir Kaur, a pharmacist from Chicago,
was upset reading the reports of the devastation and loss of lives.

"I asked myself, why had these innocent people to suffer? I wanted to be by
the side of the survivors," she said.

The chance came last month when United Sikhs, a voluntary organization with
branches in the US, Britain and India, sent a team of its members to
Phuket, Thailand, as other countries affected by the tsunami to help the
survivors.

Kaur from Chicago was selected along with three Chicagoans - Inder Kaur, a
design engineer, and Sagina Kaur and her husband Baljinder Singh, both
doctors, to go to Thailand.
