Funeral services were held for James Edward Cooper Jr., Esq., on Jan. 29 at
McKendree-Simms-Brookland United Methodist Church, the Rev. Michael W.
Armstrong, pastor, presiding. He died Jan. 22.
James Edward Cooper Jr., was born October 1, 1925, in Charlottesville, Va.,
to the late James Edward and Gertrude Bertha Perkins Cooper. He attended
Charlottesville public schools, graduating from the old Jefferson High
School. He worked odd jobs in and around his neighborhood and was drafted
into the U.S. Army. During WWII, he served in Texas, California and
overseas. He was honorably discharged and applied to Howard University. He
