Japanese mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo on Tuesday reported 15 percent profit growth for the fiscal year ended in March, mostly from the sale of its stake in AT&T Wireless of the United States.

The Tokyo-based mobile unit of Japan's largest telecom, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp., recorded a group net profit of 747.6 billion yen ($7 billion) for the fiscal year, up from 650 billion yen the previous year.

In October, NTT DoCoMo Inc. sold its 16 percent stake in U.S. wireless company AT&T Wireless Services Inc., which has been acquired by Cingular Wireless, and NTT DoCoMo booked a 502 billion yen ($4.8 billion) special profit.
