Greece's government on Thursday praised a recommendation calling feta cheese a solely Greek product and advising a European Union court to protect the name throughout the EU.
Advocate General Ruiz Jarabo advised the European Court of Justice on Tuesday that the name "feta" meets the requirements of a designation of origin.
Jarabo said feta describes a cheese originating in a substantial part of Greece whose characteristics are derived from its geographical environment, and whose production, processing and preparation are carried out in a defined area.
