Defender Cicinho netted the game-winner midway through the second half Wednesday to lead Sao Paulo over Palmeiras 1-0 in the first leg of their all-Brazilian second-round Copa Libertadores match.

Sao Paulo needs only a draw in the second leg next week to advance to the quarterfinals of the South American club competition.

Cicinho scored in the 59th-minute with a booming left-footer from about 30 meters (yards) away, hitting the left-upper corner of Palmeiras goalkeeper Marcos.
