Boca Juniors downed archrival River Plate 2-1 in Argentina's "superclasico" on Sunday.

Boca Juniors was fired up against its fellow Buenos Aires nemesis: Boca's Marcelo Delgado scored the winner in the 81st minute off a free kick that whizzed through the hands of River goalkeeper Franco Costanzo.

Boca also scored the game-opener in the 14th when star forward Martin Palermo headed a perfect pass to teammate Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who fired in a chest-level shot.

Uncowed by Boca's raucous fans, River equalized in the 46th when Luis Gonzalez took a center pass from Victor Zapata and booted it into the net.
