Paul Tate, whose daughter Sharon Tate was murdered by the followers of Charles Manson in a series of 1969 cult killings, died May 18 of congestive heart failure, said relatives. He was 82.

Tate died at a convalescent home in Coupeville, Washington, said his nephew, Ron Cobb.

Sharon Tate, an actress and model who appeared in the film "Valley of the Dolls," and four others were killed at her Beverly Hills estate on Aug. 9, 1969. She was married to director Roman Polanski and was eight months pregnant at the time.
