Inspired by former Board of Supervisors President Matt Gonzalez and art
receptions at City Hall, newly elected Board of Education President Eric
Mar held the first of what are expected to be monthly school board
receptions -- except with no wine and tequila.

Hardly any Asian Pacific Americans were present at the reception, even
though the population of San Francisco is one-third APA. The voices of APAs
have been stifled when it comes to important school-district issues such as
neighborhood schools, Newcomer High getting handicapped, bilingual
education and immigrant-parent voting in school board elections.
