After consecutive losses in international friendlies, Asian Cup champion Japan can't risk any complacency Friday when it takes on Bahrain in a match between the second- and third-placed teams in Group B of the Asian World Cup qualifying series.

South Korea, World Cup semifinalist in 2002 when it co-hosted soccer's biggest tournament with Japan, is taking a different approach into Friday's Group A showdown against winless Uzbekistan, knowing that a win would put it within a point or two of securing a spot at Germany 2006.

The South Koreans lead Group A at the halfway stage in the last round of Asian qualifying with two wins and a loss. ...
