Monday, June 20, 2005 -- World Likud delegates elected former minister Natan Sharansky as their candidate for interim chairman of the Jewish Agency on Sunday at Ramat Gan's Kfar Hamaccabiah Hotel, giving him 38 votes out of 63.

Sharansky had been expected to win the contest by a landslide, but former minister Gideon Patt received a surprisingly high 24 votes and one delegate voted for Likud activist Vladimir Herczberg.
